I
am a practicing jewelry designer, photographer and artist in Northern
California. My career in the jewelry field began in 1975 in Barrington,
IL, just outside of Chicago where I worked for the Wenzel's in
a full service family store for six years. It
was there that I found I had a flair and a passion for making
jewelry. I am fortunate to have apprenticed under a fifth generation
jeweler and also worked with many talented and well known jewelers
over the years. I moved to Michigan and worked in the Tri
Cities over the next eight years. Those years in the Midwest gave
me a good foundation for the craft of making jewelry.
In
1990 my heart led me back to Northern California where I was born.
I was happy to be challenged by the upscale and high standards
of a fast growing trend of contemporary jewelry design. This wave
inspired me to go forward with my ideas and skills to the next
phase of starting my own business. I have been dedicated to a
small wholesale jewelry design and manufacturing business which
started out as a partnership in 1993. We made jewelry and photographed
our own work and eventually offered the photography service to
other jewelers.
Phases
Design Studio is appropriately named for the many evolving and
creative aspects of making jewelry. Currently running the business
solo, I continue to offer new jewelry pieces primarily designed
around pearls for production and some one-of-a-kind pieces. My
approach to photography is similar to my jewelry-making, simple,
clean and striving for precision. Most of my creative skills are
put to use in my business. Often I am asked, "What phase
are you in?" When I am not engaged in the different aspects
of making jewelry, I enjoy oil painting which helps balance my
creative life.
